Spain: Emiliano García-Page is elected president of the Junta of Castilla-La Mancha (17-16); he takes office July 4. Guillermo Fernández Vara is elected president of the Junta of Extremadura (36-0 with 29 abstentions); he takes office July 4.
Switzerland: Anton Lauber becomes president of the government of Basel-Land, Hans Wicki Landammann of Nidwalden, and Niklaus Bleiker Landammann of Obwalden.
United States: Ethan Berkowitz takes office as mayor of Anchorage and Lenny Curry as mayor of Jacksonville.

Madagascar: Prime Minister Jean Ravelonarivo survives a no-confidence motion in parliament (95 votes for the motion, 17 against; 101 needed).
Spain: Javier Lambán is elected president of the Diputación General of Aragón (35-32); he takes office July 5. Miguel Ángel Revilla is elected president of the Council of Government of Cantabria (in a second round of voting by a simple majority of 17-15 with 3 abstentions); he takes office July 7. José Ignacio Ceniceros is elected president of La Rioja (simple majority of 15-14 with 4 abstentions); he takes office July 8. Pedro Antonio Sánchez takes office as president of Murcia.
Turkey: Vecdi Gönül is appointed defense minister.

Afghanistan: Parliament fails to confirm Masoum Stanikzai as defense minister (84 votes in favour, 107 required).

Cyprus: The prime minister of North Cyprus, Özkan Yorgancioglu, resigns. On July 6 President Mustafa Akinci asks Ömer Kalyoncu to form a government. On July 15 Kalyoncu's government is announced (taking office July 16) with Emine Çolak as foreign minister, Aziz Gurpinar as interior minister, and Hasan Basoglu as finance minister.

Argentina: In gubernatorial elections in Córdoba, Juan Schiaretti (Unión por Córdoba) wins 40% of the vote, Oscar Aguad (Frente Juntos por Córdoba) 34%, and Eduardo Accastello (Córdoba Podemos) 17%. In Buenos Aires city, Horacio Rodríguez Larreta (Propuesta Republicana) wins 45.5%, Martín Lousteau (Energía Ciudadana Organizada) 25.5%, and Mariano Recalde (Frente para la Victoria) 22%; a runoff is held on July 19, Rodríguez Larreta winning 51.6% and Lousteau 48.4%. In La Rioja, Sergio Casas (Frente para la Victoria) wins about 57% and Julio Martínez (Fuerza Cívica Riojana) about 42%.
South Africa: Former premier of Western Cape (1994-98) Hernus Kriel dies.

Greece: Finance Minister Gianis Varoufakis resigns. Efkleidis Tsakalotos is appointed finance minister.
Zimbabwe: In a cabinet reshuffle, Ignatius Chombo becomes home affairs minister.

Malaysia: Datuk Mohd Amin Nordin Abdul Aziz is appointed as mayor of Kuala Lumpur (effective July 18) and Datuk Hashim Ismail as president of Putrajaya Corporation (effective August 1).
Montserrat: Governor Adrian Davis departs. Deputy Governor Alric Taylor becomes acting governor.

Laos: The National Assembly approves a government reshuffle which includes Khammanh Sounvileuth becoming minister of home affairs.

Latvia: Raimonds Vejonis takes office as president. The Saeima approves Raimonds Bergmanis as new defense minister.

Georgia: Kazbulat Tskhovrebov is appointed foreign minister of South Ossetia.
Saudi Arabia: Former foreign minister (1975-2015) Saud Al Faysal dies.
Turkey: President Recep Tayyip Erdogan asks Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu to form a new government.

Pakistan: Former president (1956-57, 1970-75, 1985-91) and prime minister (1991-96) of Azad Kashmir Sardar Abdul Qayyum Khan dies.

North Korea: Gen. Pak Yong Sik is mentioned as defense minister. His predecessor Hyon Yong Chol was last described as defense minister on February 25 and was, according to South Korean intelligence reports in May, executed on April 30.

Nigeria: Former administrator of Taraba (1993-96) Yohanna Dickson dies.
Suriname: Parliament reelects Dési Bouterse as president (unopposed).

Germany: Carsten Sieling is elected mayor of Bremen (46-33).
Lebanon: Parliament fails again to elect a president due to lack of a quorum, the next attempt being set for August 12.

Burkina Faso: President Michel Kafando takes over the defense portfolio previously held by Prime Minister Isaac Zida. In the full reshuffle, decreed on July 19, Kafando also takes the security portfolio from Col. Auguste Denise Barry but gives up foreign affairs to Moussa Nébié; Youssouf Ouattara receives Barry's other portfolio of territorial administration.
