Referral Review by NIMA/DoD Approved For Release 2003/05/15 CIA-RDP96-00789ROO1000020001-8 WORKING PAPER Project: 91004-A Date: 910115 Time: 2130-2245 910116 0330-0500 Viewer: 018 Session: 01 Monitor: None SUMMARY OF INFORMATION: TASKING- "Show indicators which will preceed an attack of Iraqi forces against US and allied forces. IndicAte location of attack." 1. There was a strong impression that there will riot be a premptive strike on US and allied forces. Further- tasking myself with "indicators, if so", the following indicators were perceived: a. Hussein is alerted that there is a weather prediction of strong rainstorms to the south (where US and allied forces are located) but not in the north (where Iraqi forces are located). These storms are approximately 3-5 days away. b. An east--to-west movement of Iraqi heavy equipment occurs in northern Kuwait (see ikttached map, point A). C. Within a 1-3 day period- 1) Hussein appears on Iraqi TV with a stately woman who is wearing black (or dark charcoal) clothing. 2) An announcement is made (possibly as a result of the meeting with the woman), that there is a "stand-down". 2. Almost immediately (within hours) after the announcement of the "stand-down", and less than I day before the heavy rains come, the first stage of an attack is launched. a. The -first stage of the attack is with missiles and artillery. This is timed to allow the US and allied troups to get spread out across the desert just as the heavy rains begin. b. Hussein's front line troups and equipment stay in place, without advancing. C. US & allied planes begin to attack Iraq, and find that there are weapons in Hussein's arsenals which can make planes and missiles "drop like rocks". d. Once the US troups are spread Out in the desert and stalled by Approved For Release 2003/05/15 : CIA-RDP96-00789ROO1000020001-8 Approved For Release 2003/05/15 : CIA-RDP96-00789ROO1000020001-8 rain, Iraqi forces in Kuwait attack toward the southwest (see point B on inap), heading across the desert, rather than down the coast, thinking that they want to keep the war "on their own kind of turf". This is a mistake on their part. 3. There were strong impressions that the Iraqis have at least two very special. weapons. One, mentioned above, "10CI%S Up" Up mechanical devices. It C R. causes loss of missile guidance, and planes "freeze" up and "drop like rocks from the sky". For some reason, this weapon does not work as well against ground troups. b. Another special weapon is presently buried in the sand (btb somewhere in northern Kuwait: point C on map), and can be brought out for use. It gave strong impressions of being some kind of a particle-beam weapon.
