ADONI-ZEDEK, i. e. lord of righteousness, a king of Jerusalem, who made an alliance with four other kings of the Amorites, against Joshua. A great battle was fought at Gibeon, where the Lord aided Israel by a terrific hail-storm, and Joshua commanded the sun to stand still. The five kings were signally defeated, and having hid themselves in a cave at Makkedah, were taken by Joshua and put to death. Josh. chap. x.
