ADVOCATE






ADVOCATE, παράκλητος, signifies one who exhorts, defends, comforts ; also one who prays or intercedes for another. It is an appellation given to the Holy Spirit by our Savior, (John xiv. 16 ; xv. 26 ; xvi. 7.) and to our Savior himself, by John, 1 Epist. ii. 1. See Paraclete.
